Dr. Mary Wingo:

Mary Wingo was born in the United States where she earned a Ph.D. in human stress research from The University of North Texas. in 2014, She emigrated to Ecuador, a tiny country in South America. Living in a new and very different society opened her eyes to the unsustainable social, economic, and political costs preventable stress causes in the modern world. Dr. Wingo's aim is to clearly explain to the public the biological mechanisms behind the stress response, as well as its staggering costs to society.

She also presents effective science-based stress-management solutions that any person in any community can employ. The result was The Impact of the Human Stress Response: The biological origins, causes and solutions to human stress– a unique fusion of science, economics, and sociology culminating from 20 years of research and social insight.

More from Dr. Wingo:

My specialty is physiology, and specifically, the human physiological stress response. One thing that seems to escape many analysts and political leaders is the staggering costs of stress in modern society within the psychological, social, political, and economic sectors. In my analysis, preventable human stress leads to (many, many) millions of unnecessary death every year. Furthermore, the economic costs of chemical, physical, and psychological human stress world-wide are well into the multiple trillions of dollars of losses every year.

Born in Kerry, Southwest Ireland, Tony studied Fine Art at Crawford College of Art & Design, also gaining his Higher Diploma in Art Education. Presently, Tony can be found working at his Cork-based White Tree Studio, creating ever more sought after pieces of art.

With a disciplined approach in his study of horse anatomy, Tony puts a great emphasis on technical execution. As with much of his work the void of background & simplicity of the pieces serve to highlight the natural physical perfection of these animals. The horse & the beauty of its majestic form & spirit are the basis of his canvas. The result of his inimitable combination of an innate aptitude for draughtsmanship & his lifelong passion for horses is a body of beautifully evocative paintings that capture the unique power, grace & nobility of the equine form. Anyone who appreciates classical elegance cannot but be drawn in.

Tony's love of horses stems from his childhood, some of his earliest memories are those of his grand-uncle Mossie working in his dark smoke-filled forge, shoeing local horses & ponies. Influenced by the Renaissance Masters, he takes his style of drawing from the Silverpoint pieces of Da Vinci & drawings of Michelangelo - elements of both can be seen in his drawings & portraits of horses. His work now forms part of many private & corporate collections worldwide. Additionally, Tony has hosted several Master Class Workshops & has embarked on an exciting new venture as Resident Artist at the Equine Art Retreat in Oklahoma, America.

Ellie Laks

Ellie Laks was born in Israel and raised in The United States. She has always loved animals and from the time she was 7 she would find animals who were lost, sick or injured she would bring them home to heal them. Ellie’s parents did not want a house full of animals and her friends teased her for loving animals so much. Noticing that her community didn’t cherish animals the way she did, she vowed that when she grew up she would have a huge place full of animals and she would show people how beautiful they are. In 1999 Ellie founded her dream, The Gentle Barn Foundation, home to severely abused and neglected animals that no one else wants. She came up with a special healing process that allows old, sick, injured and terrified animals to recover using a mixture of Western medicine and holistic healing modalities as well as nutritional products, holding therapy and lots of love

.
Once healed and happy, the animals help Ellie heal at risk, inner city and special needs children who have the same stories of abuse and neglect as the animals. Through the interaction with the animals and the stories of the animals, the children learn kindness, compassion, confidence, and find themselves in the presence of other living beings.

Ellie has saved thousands of animals to date. The Gentle Barn is home to a total of 175 animals, both at the original Santa Clarita, California and the newest location in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ellie lives on the property with her husband and their 3 children. Her husband Jay Weiner works at The Gentle Barn with her and together they get to see miracles every day. It is their goal to build Gentle Barns around the world. The mission statement of The Gentle Barn is: “Teaching people kindness and compassion to animals, each other and our planet.” For more information, please visit: www.gentlebarn.org .

Eriyah Flynn

is a decorated USAF Desert Storm Era Veteran, with a 20+year career in Project/Operations Management in Logistics, Telecom, Legal/Law Enforcement, Health Care, and Renewable Energy Development in both government and private sectors. She was born and raised in Southern California when Earth Day and Zero Population Growth (ZPG) were a big part of school programs, and like many, considered herself an environmentalist and animal lover. However, she did not begin to make the vegan connection to be consistent with both values until 1996. Over the course of her experience with multiple social justice movements she saw gaps in the vegan animal rights movement’s strategies and decided to apply her professional knowledge and expertise and two decades of seasoned vegan advocacy to develop and launch a new non-profit organization in 2014, www.VeganShift.org .

Eriyah believes that empowering a rapid, world vegan shift is the best answer humanity can do to solving our most pressing social injustices and correcting our present path to global mass extinction. Eriyah lives in a suburb of Columbus and has been an Ohio resident since 1998. In addition to Vegan Shift, she co-organizes for the Columbus Vegan meet-up, and writes a standing column in the Columbus Free Press called Socially Just Dining, which is designed to help people find vegan eats in the greater Columbus metropolitan area.

Verbal Aikido is essentially shifting someone's energy of negativity and rejection of veganism and what they think it is, and redirecting and inspiring them into seriously considering and/or pursuing the idea. It is learning subtle yet important nuances in language and relational skills to compel people towards our ideas while using unequivocal vegan messaging and remembering that love and empowerment attracts, and the rage and judgment repels in our methodologies.

John Finch

grew up the youngest of 3 boys in a suburb of Dallas where he lost his father to suicide at age 11. As a young man, John did anything he could to avoid confronting the wounds he suffered as a result of being fatherless. His craving for affirmation from a father who was not there to provide it, led him to seek that affirmation from the world in many unhealthy ways. In an attempt to find value as a man, he created a false persona that left him completely unfulfilled. His life was based on the pursuit of money in order to prove his success and he became a social alcoholic as he strived to be the life of every party and gain the attention of those around him.

It was only when John realized and dealt with the unresolved issues of his father wound that he was able to become truly fulfilled. On April 10th, 2009, he finally came face to face with the issues that drove him to seek approval from a father who was not there to give it to him. By forgiving his father and recognizing what it truly means to be a man by God’s standard, he became a new man, husband and father.

John seeks to break down the barriers that prevent men and women from addressing deep rooted anger and hurt from the wounds they have suffered in this life by candidly and openly sharing his story, his failings, and his path to a new way of life. John’s mission is to educate, encourage and equip men to become the fathers they were created to be, and to help men walk in daily awareness of their significant and lifelong influence as fathers. Through The Father Effect Movie, John shares stories and messages that will move viewers to a new awareness about the everlasting impact of fathers and the importance of forgiveness and openness in the relationships of this world.

John has been married for 21 years and has three beautiful daughters. He is incredibly thankful for the second chance to be a father and husband who can offer himself to those he loves without the burden of the bitterness and anger that overshadowed his life for so many years.

Gentry Lee Burke is the mother of four perfect children, two of whom have autism. What time she doesn’t spend advocating for her children (otherwise read as harassing the bejeezus out of bureaucrats that would stand in the way of their welfare for the sake of a paycheck), she spends telling stories she can only describe as fractured loved stories. It’s no coincidence that persons with autism and other developmental eccentricities often populate the pages of her books. Write what you know and all that.

Gentry Lee is obsessed with mermaids, Sanibel/Captiva, and muscle bound pool boys. Lord, she hopes her husband isn’t reading. Or maybe she hopes he is. It would serve the low down philandering scoundrel right. It's no accident that her status as a scorned southern belle pretty much tinges every word that spills from her keyboard.

Gentry is also hard at work on developing a new .com, Divas of a Certain Age. First, because she's just now finding out who she wants to be when she grows up and second, because nobody puts a diva out to pasture. She also hosts a Facebook group by the same name.

She has two more stories to complete The Perfect Tear Trilogy and is hoping to have the second book finished by 2016.
“The first thing anybody tells you about this business is to say what makes you unique and different, but I couldn’t and the very idea of it never sat well with me and after much deliberation, I finally realized why. Because, I’m not unique or different–I’m exactly like you and I love that.
We each have a unique filter through which we interpret the world, and with this filter in place, I write stories and songs and you might find them surprising or intriguing or confronting, you may relate or you may not. They may make you laugh and sometimes, even cry.
You may or may not understand what I’m trying to say and you may not understand me, however, rest assured, once we get past the filters, at our core, we are wonderfully and beautifully, exactly the same.”

John Paul Carinci

Insurance executive and native Islander, John Paul Carinci has written his 8th book, to be published in early 2015 by Morgan James Publishing. The novel, entitled "Defying Death In Hagerstown" was inspired by an actual diary from 1923.
The idea for this fiction book happened by accident, when John won a diary from EBay, which was penned in 1923, by a young woman from Hagerstown Md. AMAZON LINK: http://www.amazon.com/Defying-Death-Hagerstown-John-Carinci/dp/1630473510/ref=sr_1_10?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1408391977&sr=1-10&keywords=carinci
The 90 year old diary of 365 pages, was fully handwritten by a woman known only as Lolita. I knew there was a story there somewhere, but more importantly I was drawn into the time, the young woman, the love interest she had throughout the year, Carinci says.
I was CONSUMED with finding out who and whatever happened to this Lolita from Hagerstown Md. It took years to find out who she was, that she married the love interest, and when she passed on. SO, I wrote a novel, based on a character from Hagerstown, named Lolita, he added.
The story revolves around a young newspaper reporter, who is rapidly self- destructing, after a bad breakup with his fiancée, and who has a drinking problem, is a real mess at work, and is ready to be fired.
His last chance assignment is to go to Hagerstown, Md. and interview a centenarian wonder woman of 110 years old, named Lolita, who resides in a nursing home. The reporter later uncovers the diary from 1923, and that Lolita, in 1923, lived through a mass murder spree of 3 of her young girlfriends in Hagerstown that still was unsolved. The reporter sees a real story in the murders, and is consumed with investigating and solving this 90 year old mystery. But someone in Hagerstown is rattled by his nosing around, and bullets fly, and someone is killed.

The next year, when she realized it wasn’t good enough to get published, she rewrote it, typing a manuscript of 98,000 words. That started a long trend of writing a book or several books each year. At fourteen, Yvette contacted her first literary agent, who rejected her but described her work as promising. At sixteen, she was published in a teenage anthology distributed throughout New Zealand. A few months before her nineteenth birthday, Pontas International Literary and Film Agency signed her up as their youngest ever client. Pontas worked at the time with big names such as Alan Duff, Susan Abulhawa, and Jonas Jonasson. Finally, two weeks before her twenty-first birthday, Yvette was offered a multi-book contract with Permuted Press. Paul Letters

I write and broadcast as a freelance journalist, most regularly for the South China Morning Post or Radio Television Hong Kong. My first novel A Chance Kill has reached the top of some bestseller charts.
Originally from England, I now live in the jungled fringes of Hong Kong. Dealing with the onset of physical disability – twisted and transposed to a character in A Chance Kill – prompted me to write. I studied history, education, global affairs and literary journalism at the Universities of Cardiff, Oxford and Hong Kong, where I stayed on as a Senior Researcher.
My SCMP subject matter includes George Orwell’s prediction of the current Cold War in East Asia and a travel story on Prague: In Assassins’s Shoes. My articles are available here on my website and at www.scmp.com/author/paul-letters
I’m a ‘Radio Historian’ with a regular slot in Hong Kong. I’ve featured on BBC radio and across the US (e.g. WPFL and Superstation 101 WYDE). You’ll find my ‘This Month in History’ RTHK slot here. And here are a couple of the interviews which focused on my first novel: RTHK Radio 3, 9 February 2015 and RTHK Radio 3, 26 February 2015 (Part I, 20min50sec).
I’m currently working on the true story of a mass escape from Hong Kong during World War Two.

Steven C. Roberts

When Steven got to industry, his co-workers would start to complain that they were still paying off student loans some 10 years after finishing college. "At first, I thought it was an isolated indecent, but as I spoke to more and more people I realized that this was a huge problem. People simply didn't know where or how to find resources that could save them 10 or more years of paying back debt." Steven said. Steven then decided to help people understand how to do it by writing his book entitled: Winning the Money Game in College, Book 1: Finance -- Any Major and Any GPA Can Finish College Debt-Free or Better! "I didn't want to give people a long laundry list of things to do, instead, I wanted them to be able to see and learn in a way that they could remember -- but make it fun."

JANET KLEINMAN

Janet Kleinman makes her home in South County Florida. She is a wife, mother and grandmother who wrote collateral materials for Fortune 500 companies like SmithKline& French, Merck, the Shriners and the American Red Cross, etc. After her children graduated college, she returned to teaching language arts to middle school students.

But Janet always wanted to write a novel, and joined several writer study groups to sharpen her writing talent. A dozen short stories followed. After winning an award for A FIRST BOYFRIEND from Writer’s Digest, she was motivated to write a novel, Now she had a universal plot (renewed love between a man and woman – a modern version).

The earthquake in Haiti four years ago changed the plot from a coming of age love story to a thrilling romance that takes us from Florida to Haiti and Washington D.C. The author visualized a scenario where a widow, an ex-boyfriend, a Haitian ex-pat and a U.S. senator become involved with each other while helping Haiti rise up from the ashes.

FLIRTING WITH DISASTER WAS DESCRIBED BY THE SUN SENTINEL AS A LOVE STORY ABOUT A WOMAN REDISCOVERING HERSELF WHILE HELPING WITH EARTHQUAKE RECOVERY IN HAITI.

The author has reconnected with a first boyfriend, who has since died, met a U.S. senator, but has never been to Haiti. Yet all three elements were combined into a romantic novel that starts in Florida, moves to Haiti and ends on a happy note in Washington D.C.

In September of 2013, she was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Brooklyn College Alumni Association that was probably influenced by the publication of FLIRTING WITH DISASTER. FLIRTING WITH DISASTER is now on the permanent shelf of Palm Beach Florida Writers’ books.

This experience fueled her passion to learn as much as possible about every form of professional K9 discipline with a special emphasis on Search and Rescue.
